Thermal Sensors
The group „Thermal Sensors“ develops application specific sensors und microsystems which use thermal effects to measure physical parameters.
Temperature is a special parameter in physics since most processes induce heat generation and consequently heat flux influencing the temperature distribution within a system. Since temperature is relatively easy to measure, many sensor concepts are based on thermal principles.
It is possible to measure parameters like flow velocity, dew-point temperature and humidity, inclination angle or material properties like thermal conductivity. Also energy balances of physical, chemical or biological processes can be monitored spatially and time-resolved. This means that thermal sensor principles offer a lot of possibilities and can be used for many different applications. By means of miniaturisation its efficiency, especially response time and sensitivity, can be significantly improved.
